Thoughts Of Devotion:
The Book of Acts reveals the early stages and development of the church. Within its pages we discover how the first believers carried out its mission to preach the gospel from Jerusalem to the ends of the earth. We see how this came to pass through a divine and human combination, The Holy Spirit working and mobilizing all believers everywhere! In Acts 16:5 it tells us, “So the churches were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily.” The church took momentum and growth in a supernatural and miraculous way.
This morning, if a there were words define the early church, it would be “growth and multiplication.” It is abundantly clear that the church, in its commencement, experienced accelerated and fast growth. Scripture teaches us that every day new people were added in the congregation. The Bible testifies about thousands being added in one day. There was an explosion of growth! Wherever one saw, there were hundreds of salvations at a time. The evangelism that was practiced by the early believers yielded an abundant and lasting fruit. The preaching of the Word brought continuous fruit. Wherever the word was preached, there was a multiplication of salvations, “Then the word of God spread, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were obedient to the faith.” (Acts 6: 7).
The Book of Acts gives us the model, the example and design that we must follow today. Today we can experience the same abundant and supernatural life that the church in its beginnings had, if only we follow their example! As believers we are challenged to live lives filled with the Holy Spirit, to see a strong and firm church despite the attacks that the enemy can throw at us. In Matthew 16:18 it tells us, “And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” The church today is called to experience growth and multiplication, this is the model we see in the Book of Acts!
