Thoughts Of Devotion:
The book of Acts is a continuation of the works of Jesus. It is believed to be the second part of the Gospel of Luke. The ministry of Jesus was one of miracles, signs and wonders as it is stated in Acts 2:22“Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know.” Every place that Jesus went, we see that He not only taught, but He demonstrated the works of God. The anointing of the Holy Spirit was resting on Him and His message transformed lives.
There is an emphasis on these two words, “do and teach.” Jesus not only taught but his words came with authority. When He taught, the signs always followed. In Acts 10:38 it tells us, “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” The ministry of Jesus was one of power, there was no one who could stop him, not even the forces of the enemy. Every chain from the enemy was destroyed, all evil oppression was destroyed by the power of His Word!
We can say that the Book of Acts is a continuation of the works of Jesus. The disciples, through the power of the Holy Spirit, would carry out the message of the gospel with signs and wonders following them. In John 14:12 it says, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.” The works were done even greater because now Jesus would be at the right hand of the Father. This is the promise for us this morning, we will do the works of Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit!
