2 Chronicles 34:12 (MSG) — 12 The workmen were honest and diligent. Their foremen were Jahath and Obadiah, the Merarite Levites, and Zechariah and Meshullam from the Kohathites—these managed the project. The Levites—they were all skilled musicians—were in charge of the common laborers and supervised the workers as they went from job to job.
Thoughts Of Devotion:
In the heart of Josiah was the power to restore and repair the temple, as it says in 2 Chronicles 34:8, “In the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purged the land and the temple, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, Maaseiah the governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder, to repair the house of the Lord his God.” We see that he first had to remove the idols that were in the village and then immediately he took to the task of restoring worship. King Josiah had a fervent passion to worship God in a special way!
Worship at this time in the history of Israel had been abandoned, it had been replaced by idolatry among the people. It was a very sad condition, they had lost the presence of God in their midst, and the glory of God was absent! The thing that happened was what Isaiah 29:13 describes, “Therefore the Lord said: “Inasmuch as these people draw near with their mouths And honor Me with their lips, But have removed their hearts far from Me, And their fear toward Me is taught by the commandment of men.”All that was left was a ritual, a liturgy, they were just moving their lips, but their words were empty of substance and meaning.
I believe that now is the time to restore our worship to God. The call is to build a spiritual temple again, and that our worship flow from the depths of our being. That they won’t just be empty words, but genuine worship that outbreaks from the depths of our hearts. This is what God looks at this morning, “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.”(John 4:23). Let us pray that we will be those worshipers in spirit and truth.
1 Kings 22:4-5 (NKJV) — Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may count the money which has been brought into the house of the Lord, which the doorkeepers have gathered from the people. 5 And let them deliver it into the hand of those doing the work, who are the overseers in the house of the Lord; let them give it to those who are in the house of the Lorddoing the work, to repair the damages of the house
1 Kings 5:5 (NKJV) — 5 5 And behold, I propose to build a house for the name of the Lord my God, as the Lord spoke to my father David, saying, “Your son, whom I will set on your throne in your place, he shall build the house for My name.”
Isaiah 29:13 (NKJV) — 13 Therefore the Lord said: “Inasmuch as these people draw near with their mouths And honor Me with their lips, But have removed their hearts far from Me, And their fear toward Me is taught by the commandment of men,
John 4:23 (NKJV) — 23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.
Isaiah 57:15 (NKJV) — 15 For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
Haggai 2:9 (NKJV) — 9 ‘The glory of this latter temple shall be greater than the former,’ says the Lord of hosts. ‘And in this place I will give peace,’ says the Lord of hosts.”
