2 Chronicles 34:3 (NKJV)

21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

1 John 5:21 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

2 Kings 19-21

Bible Versions:

2 Chronicles 34:3 (MSG) — 3 When he had been king for eight years—he was still only a teenager—he began to seek the God of David his ancestor. Four years later, the twelfth year of his reign, he set out to cleanse the neighborhood of sex-and-religion shrines, and get rid of the sacred Asherah groves and the god and goddess figurines, whether carved or cast, from Judah.

1 John 5:21 (NLT) — 21 Dear children, keep away from anything that might take God’s place in your hearts.

Thoughts Of Devotion:

If you really want to see a genuine transformation and be able please God, it will require that you remove the things that dominate the place of God in your lives. In Matthew 6:24 it says, “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” As we read, the heart only has room for one person, the throne of our heart should only belong to the Lord Jesus Christ, there is no room for anything else to take the place that only belongs to God!

The young Josiah took the decision to remove all the idols that the people had. He understood that this was a worship and honor that only belonged to God! The mandate in Scripture was very clear, “You shall not make idols for yourselves; neither a carved image nor a sacred pillar shall you rear up for yourselves; nor shall you set up an engraved stone in your land, to bow down to it; for I am the Lord your God.” (Leviticus 26:1). Only God is worthy to take the first place in our lives. If we allow something more to occupy this place in our heart then this is called idolatry.

An idol is not just an image or a statue where worship is surrendered, but it is everything tat is more important that God! In 2 Corinthians 6:16 it tells us, “And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.” Today the Holy Spirit dwells in our hearts, Jesus is Lord of our lives! We cannot live with things that occupy the throne of our hearts. It is time to remove and cleanse our lives of idols. That is the only way we can experience the presence of God!

Foundational Scriptures:

Leviticus 26:1 (NKJV) — 26 ‘You shall not make idols for yourselves; neither a carved image nor a sacred pillar shall you rear up for yourselves; nor shall you set up an engraved stone in your land, to bow down to it; for I am the Lord your God.

1 John 5:21 (NKJV) — 21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

Colossians 3:5 (NKJV) — Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.

2 Corinthians 6:16 Version (NKJV) — 16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.”

2 Chronicles 15:2 (NKJV) — And he went out to meet Asa, and said to him: “Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin. The Lord is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.

They have mouths, but they do not speak; Eyes they have, but they do not see; They have ears, but they do not hear; Noses they have, but they do not smell; They have hands, but they do not handle; Feet they have, but they do not walk; Nor do they mutter through their throat. Those who make them are like them; So is everyone who trusts in them.

Proverbs 8:17 (NKJV) — 17 I love those who love me, And those who seek me diligently will find me.

Psalm 119:9 (NKJV) —How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.
