He Who Has A Contrite And Humble Spirit

Topic: Humility Precedes His Manifested Presence

For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

Isaiah 57:15 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

2 Samuel 23-24

Bible Versions:

Isaiah 57:15 (MSG) — A Message from the high and towering God, who lives in Eternity, whose name is Holy: “I live in the high and holy places, but also with the low-spirited, the spirit-crushed, And what I do is put new spirit in them, get them up and on their feet again.

Isaiah 57:15 (NLT) — The high and lofty one who lives in eternity, the Holy One, says this: “I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are contrite and humble. I restore the crushed spirit of the humble and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts.

Devotional Thought:

It is important to recognize that the path of humility always take us to spiritual revival in our lives. The Bible is very clear in emphasizing how brokenness and humility  is necessary for a genuine move of God upon our lives. Psalm 34:18 tells us, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves such as have a contrite spirit”. The Lord is near to those who are of humble heart and contrite spirit. Whenever one humbles oneself and comes to God with a broken heart then God’s presence is felt in a special way.

Our God that is highly lifted up, living in eternity, and is three times holy, dwells inside those who have a broken heart in his presence! This is the best sacrifice we can offer unto God, a broken spirit as His Word tells us, “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit and a contrite heart you will not despise, O God” (Psalm 51:17). Today this is what the Lord seeks, a broken and humble spirit before Him! Those who are in this state of spiritual humility, are those who have God’s attention and favor.

God visits and pours out his Spirit on the humble. This is what we should be praying today, that we remain humble in his presence! Never let pride or vanity find its place in our heart. Remember what James 4:6 says, “But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble”. Today if we need his grace and favor, all it takes is for us to humble ourselves before Him. God has prepared a spiritual revival for our lives. Humility is the key to see spiritual revival today!
