Do not quench the Spirit

Topic: We Must Keep The Flame of The Spirit Lit

1 Thessalonians 5:19 (NKJV)

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

Ephesians 4:30 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

Lamentations 1-2

Bible Versions:

1 Thessalonians 5:19 (MSG) —  Don’t suppress the Spirit

Ephesians 4:30 (NLT) — And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.

Devotional Thought:

Nothing compares to possessing the fire of the Holy Spirit in our hearts. It is one of the greatest spiritual blessings that we may have! In Matthew 3:11 we read that John the Baptist anticipated the day when all believers would be baptized in the Holy Spirit and fire, saying, “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance; but he that cometh after me, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear one mightier than I; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. “Jesus baptizes us with the Holy Ghost fire!

But it is very sad when we allow the flame of the Spirit to go out in our hearts. We see in Genesis 6:3 how God warns us of this danger, ” And the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.”. Today we as believers have the privilege to enjoy an intimate and personal communion with the Holy Spirit, what would our lives be without him!

We must be careful to not quench the Holy Spirit in our lives, drowning his work within us, setting limits and hindrances. Today we must examine our lives, and understand that sin quenches the Spirit. It’s time to accept his direction, guidance and complete work for our lives. We have to keep from living our lives in disobedience, and out of fellowship with Him. Take a firm decision to never turn off the Holy Spirit’s work in our hearts! This morning we must pray the words of David in Psalm 51:11, ” Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me ” May the Lord help us daily to keep the fire of the Holy Spirit burning within us. May nothing ever quench its flame!
