Topic: All Things Were Accomplished At The Cross

After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!”

John 19:28 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

Ruth 1-4

Bible Version:

John 19:28 (NLT) — Jesus knew that his mission was now finished, and to fulfill Scripture he said, “I am thirsty.”

John 19:28 (MSG) — Jesus, seeing that everything had been completed so that the Scripture record might also be complete, then said, “I’m thirsty.”

John 19:28 (AMP) — After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished (ended), said in fulfillment of the Scripture, I thirst.

Devotional Thoughts:

As we see the last words of Jesus on the cross, one understands the way everything was prophesied beforehand. We manage to see that nothing was unexpected at the last minute, to the contrary, in God’s prophetic clock everything was taking place as he declared in his Word. Jesus was always aware of this and always made sure that his disciples were aware of it, “Jesus took the Twelve, said, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets about the Son of Man” (Luke 18:31).

We see how Jesus fulfilled each of the prophecies that had been given of Him. in the midst of his pain and agony He made a request, “I have thirst.” This was in fulfillment of prophecy in Psalm 69:21, “I put also gall for my food, and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. “Obviously after suffering while hanging on the cross, exposed to hot sun, after losing blood and endured great suffering, he had physical needs, he was thirsty. What does this show us? This shows that on the cross he was a real man, his body felt the full weight of the horrendous suffering of the cross.

What a paradox we see in the cross? It’s amazing what we see. Jesus the Water of Life, who exclaimed, “but whoever drinks the water I shall give him shall never thirst: but the water that I shall give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life” in John 4:14, now die thirsty. What greatest despair and pain! Jesus the Savior of the world faces thirst and anguish for loving us. In this morning reflect and meditate on this great love that Jesus has given to each of us. He suffered the cross and took our place! Pray that today we may lift our hearts to heaven and express worship of gratitude for all he did for us at Calvary.
