Redeemed Us From The Curse Of The Law
Topic: The Cross Marked The End Of The Law And The Beginning Of Grace
Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”),
Galatians 3:13 (NKJV)
Daily Reading Plan
Judges 13-16
Bible Versions:
Galatians 3:13 (NLT) — But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.”
Galatians 3:13 (MSG) — Christ redeemed us from that self-defeating, cursed life by absorbing it completely into himself. Do you remember the Scripture that says, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”?
Devotional Thought:
What a blessing to know that we are redeemed through Christ dying on the Cross at Calvary. The word redeem means “to buy a slave in the public market and take him out of slavery into freedom”. This is what Christ did for us through the work on the Cross. Before his work on the cross, God’s people were under the curse of the law, without hope and under the rule of the Law! It was on the Cross that Christ took on the curse and bought us freedom, leaving us out of the reach from the curse of the Law.
Thank God that through Jesus we have been redeemed and rescued as the book of Galatians says, “But when the fullness of time, God sent his Son, born of woman, born under law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons” (v.4-5). Today we are not slaves, but we have been adopted as sons. We have been delivered from the law, to grace. We are “justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus” (Romans 3:24).
Through Jesus on the Cross, we have come to know God’s grace. What a lovely and beautiful Grace! We have been redeemed from the Law, and now live under His grace. Before, we were dead in sin, but now saved by the grace of God, as Ephesians 2:5 declares, “even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)” Now through grace, our lives are pleasing to the Lord. The law only condemned because it was impossible to fulfill it, since no one could fulfill its requirements. But thank God that through the Cross, we have known the grace of God!
