Thoughts of Devotion:
It’s wonderful what God can do with a life that is lost and hopeless. The story of the demoniac Gadarene teaches us of the great need in the world today. The state of necessity that many live in! In Luke 8:27 this teaches us the miserable situation of this man, ” And when He stepped out on the land, there met Him a certain man from the city who had demons for a long time. And he wore no clothes, nor did he live in a house but in the tombs.” He came to live among the graves, he was dead but in life!
The life of this man was one of oppression and was dominated by many demons. In Luke 8:29 he tells us, “For He had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For it had often seized him, and he was kept under guard, bound with chains and shackles; and he broke the bonds and was driven by the demon into the wilderness.” For society this man had no hope there, he was an impossible case. His chains were not only physical, but spiritual! As many are found today without hope of leaving their sad condition. They have been abandoned by humanity, they live their lives far from the new life, only surrounded by death and oppression!
In this same way we were found, but one day Jesus came into our lives. We were freed from the power of the enemy and discovered the new life that is only found in Jesus Christ. Only God could have transformed our lives, From the graves, now being able to sit in heavenly places with Christ! That is why today we announce this message of hope and life. We must address the exhortation of 2 Timothy 4:5, “But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.” We cannot be quiet, it’s time to announce the good news of Jesus Christ.
Psalm 66:16 (NKJV) — 16 Come and hear, all you who fear God, And I will declare what He has done for my soul.
Mark 5:20 (NKJV) — 20 And he departed and began to proclaim in Decapolis all that Jesus had done for him; and all marveled.
Deuteronomy 10:21 (NKJV) — 21 He is your praise, and He is your God, who has done for you these great and awesome things which your eyes have seen.
John 4:28-29 (NKJV) — 28 The woman then left her waterpot, went her way into the city, and said to the men, 29 “Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?”
