Topic: The Process Of Becoming Like Christ Will Have Its End
Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
I John 3:2-3 (NKJV)
Daily Reading Plan
1 Juan 3:2–3 (NLT) — Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is. And all who have this eager expectation will keep themselves pure, just as he is pure.
1 Juan 3:2–3 (MSG) — But friends, that’s exactly who we are: children of God. And that’s only the beginning. Who knows how we’ll end up! What we know is that when Christ is openly revealed, we’ll see him—and in seeing him, become like him. All of us who look forward to his Coming stay ready, with the glistening purity of Jesus’ life as a model for our own.
It is a great blessing to be called sons of God this morning. The privilege of being adopted into the family of God is unexplainable! Before, we were children of wrath, but the moment we came to the Lord we became children of The Most High God. The Gospel of John 1:12-13 tells us, “But to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God, who were born not of blood, nor of will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Today we are children of God with a real and living hope. A hope that one day we will see Jesus face to face. If only for a moment we can imagine what it will be like on that day when we see the face of The Lord. The beloved of our soul! He who loved us and gave himself for us. In Revelation 1:7, we are told, “Behold, he comes in clouds, and every eye shall see him, and those who pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him.” For some that day will be a time of regret, but for His children it will be a time that we have anticipate all our lives.
When we eventually see him face to face, Scripture has promised us that we will be just as He is, “know that when he appears we shall be like Him, for we shall see him as he is” (v.2). On that day we will be complete in Christ! Our whole being will be glorious as He is glorious. Philippians 3:21 says, “Who shall change our vile body, that will be like his glorious body.” We have a glorious future as children of God. Let us pray today that we hold fast and constant in the formation that God is working in our lives. Perhaps today we fail to see what we will become, but that day will come when his work will be complete and we will be in His image and likeness.
Revelation 1:7 (NKJV) — Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.
Philippians 3:21 (NKJV) — who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.
Job 19:26 (NKJV) — And after my skin is destroyed, this I know, That in my flesh I shall see God,
Matthew 5:8 (NKJV) — Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.
1 Corinthians 13:12 (NKJV) — For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.
