While We Were Still Sinners

Topic: The Cross Is The Greatest Demonstration Of Love

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:8 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

Joshua 11-13

Bible Versions:

Romans 5:8 (NLT) ― But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

Romans 5:8 (MSG) — 8 But God put his love on the line for us by offering his Son in sacrificial death while we were of no use whatever to him.

Thoughts of Devotion:

By meditating on what Christ did for us on the Cross of Calvary, one is amazed at the great demonstration of the love of God toward us. It brings to mind the scripture John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” God’s love was manifested in giving his son on the cross! His love for mankind was shown in a sacrificial love, a love that was given completely at Calvary as a sacrifice for all of us.

Jesus did this when we were still in our sin. He loved us when no one else loved us, loved us when we were still dead in our trespasses and wrongdoings. This was the greatest test of the love of God, He loved us when we were in a state of disobedience and rebellion. The Book of Romans tells us, “For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.” (Romans 5: 6). On the Father’s clock, came the moment that Christ died for us showing us his incomparable love. We were unable to rescue ourselves! But thank God for his love shown to us all.

I wonder, what do we do with this love? Is it possible to love as Christ loved us? The Bible tells us in 1 John 3:16, “By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.” Christ on this day expects us to love as He loved us! Today it is our responsibility to love as Christ loved us. A love that is sacrificial and given completely to our neighbor. Let us pray that today we achieve to give and offer a sincere and genuine love to those around us.

Foundational Scriptures:

John 15:13 (NKJV) ― 13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.

Romans 5:6 (NKJV) ― For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

John 3:16 (NKJV) ― 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

1 John 3:16 (NKJV) ― 16 By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
