Thoughts of Devotion:
As we reflect the condition in which we were before coming to the Lord all we can say is, Thank you Jesus for delivering us from our past life! Before our salvation we were found in darkness living a life of destruction, without hope, prone to sin and evil. In Ephesians 2:2 it tells us, “in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience.” The Bible describes the condition as spiritual death, we were dead in our trespasses and sins, only existing, but without spiritual life.
Without Christ our thinking and behaviour was doing evil, and every day we sank deeper into sin and evil. We had a living body, but with a dead soul without spiritual life, insensitive, dead in faith. In Colossians 2:13 it says, “And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses.” In the midst of our spiritual death, God gave us life! It was only the grace and love of God who brought us out of the dark depths of sin.
It is for this reason that today we celebrate the abundant life that He has given us, we’ve passed from death to life in Christ Jesus! We would have been dead in our sinfulness, but now we have a new life in Christ, a life in abundance. In John 10:10 it tells us, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” Glory to God that we live now no longer bound by the enemy, but we have a new life, a life in abundance!
