Daily Reading Plan

Joshua 1-4

 Bible Versions:

Ephesians 2:1 (MSG) — 1 It wasn’t so long ago that you were mired in that old stagnant life of sin.

John 5:24 (MSG) — 24 “It’s urgent that you listen carefully to this: Anyone here who believes what I am saying right now and aligns himself with the Father, who has in fact put me in charge, has at this very moment the real, lasting life and is no longer condemned to be an outsider. This person has taken a giant step from the world of the dead to the world of the living.

Thoughts of Devotion:

As we reflect the condition in which we were before coming to the Lord all we can say is, Thank you Jesus for delivering us from our past life! Before our salvation we were found in darkness living a life of destruction, without hope, prone to sin and evil. In Ephesians 2:2 it tells us, “in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience.” The Bible describes the condition as spiritual death, we were dead in our trespasses and sins, only existing, but without spiritual life.

Without Christ our thinking and behaviour was doing evil, and every day we sank deeper into sin and evil. We had a living body, but with a dead soul without spiritual life, insensitive, dead in faith. In Colossians 2:13 it says, “And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses.” In the midst of our spiritual death, God gave us life! It was only the grace and love of God who brought us out of the dark depths of sin.

It is for this reason that today we celebrate the abundant life that He has given us, we’ve passed from death to life in Christ Jesus! We would have been dead in our sinfulness, but now we have a new life in Christ, a life in abundance. In John 10:10 it tells us, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” Glory to God that we live now no longer bound by the enemy, but we have a new life, a life in abundance!

Foundational Scriptures:

Galatians 6:8 (NKJV) — For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.

Ephesians 4:22 (NKJV) — 22 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts,

Psalm 51:10 (NKJV) — 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Romans 7:5 (NKJV) — For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death.

John 6:63 (NKJV) — 63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

1 Corinthians 15:50 (NKJV) — 50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption.

Ephesians 2:2 (NKJV) — in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience,

Luke 15:32 (NKJV) — 32 It was right that we should make merry and be glad, for your brother was dead and is alive again, and was lost and is found.’”
