It Is The Power Of God

Topic: The Power Of The Message Of The Cross

18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

1 Corinthians 1:18 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

Deuteronomy 12-14

Bible Versions:

1 Corinthians 1:18 (MSG) — 18 The Message that points to Christ on the Cross seems like sheer silliness to those hellbent on destruction, but for those on the way of salvation it makes perfect sense.

1 Corinthians 1:18 (NIV) — 18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

1 Corinthians 1:18 (NLT) — 18 The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.

Thoughts of Devotion:

For some who do not know the things of the Lord, the preaching of the Cross is absurd and ridiculous. For many in this world the gospel is crazy and it does not make sense and has no place in our society! But for us who have been transformed by Him, it is the power of God! The foolishness of the Cross is what God chose to save humanity as he tells us in 1 Corinthians 1:21, “For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.”

Today we are saved through the powerful message of the Cross. The message of the gospel was not communicated with human wisdom or wisdom of this world, but with the wisdom of God! The Apostle Paul reminded them of this in 1 Corinthians 2:4, “And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power.” The message of the Cross has the power to transform lives, to bring hope and radical change to whoever receives it with faith. His Word never returns back empty, but does his work in the hearts of those that are open to receive it.

God’s redemptive plan for mankind is staggering, salvation through the sacrifice on the cross is something that is available to every human being that looks for him in faith. For this reason we must preach Christ, and the crucified! We must never let anything stop us to carry this message. In Romans 1:16 tells us, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.” In the message of the Cross we find the power of God to save, liberate, heal and transform lives.

Foundational Scriptures:

Romans 1:16 (NKJV) — 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.

1 Corinthians 1:24 (NKJV) — 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

Acts 26:24 (NKJV) — 24 Now as he thus made his defense, Festus said with a loud voice, “Paul, you are beside yourself! Much learning is driving you mad!”

1 Corinthians 1:21 (NKJV) — 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.

1 Corinthians 1:23-25 (NKJV) — 23 but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

1 Corinthians 2:14 (NKJV) — 14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

1 Corinthians 2:2 (NKJV) — For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

1 Corinthians 2:4 (NKJV) —And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,

1 Thessalonians 1:5 (NKJV) — For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake.
