The Blessing Of The Lord Was On All
Topic: Because We Are Blessed, The Blessing Follows Us!
5 So it was, from the time that he had made him overseer of his house and all that he had, that the Lord blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the Lord was on all that he had in the house and in the field.
Genesis 39:5 (NKJV)
6 “Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out.
Deuteronomy 28:6 (NKJV)
Daily Reading Plan
Genesis 39:5 (NLT) — 5 From the day Joseph was put in charge of his master’s household and property, the Lord began to bless Potiphar’s household for Joseph’s sake. All his household affairs ran smoothly, and his crops and livestock flourished.
Genesis 39:5 (NIV) — 5 From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the Lord blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The blessing of the Lord was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field.
Genesis 39:5 (MSG) — He put him in charge of all his personal affairs, turning everything over to him. From that moment on, God blessed the home of the Egyptian—all because of Joseph. The blessing of God spread over everything he owned, at home and in the fields, and all Potiphar had to concern himself with was eating three meals a day.
Thoughts of Devotion:
This morning we see how the blessing followed Joseph’s life. Wherever Joseph was, God’s blessing upon him. Even in unpleasant moments, as a slave in Potiphar’s house, or when he was in jail, the favor of God always rested upon Him! God prospered him in all things. Genesis 39:2-3 tells us, “The Lord was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made all he did to prosper in his hand.”
We see in Joseph that even the very difficult, hard and unpleasant situations never determined the blessing of God upon his life. On the contrary, the blessings outweighed the trials surrounding Joseph. He was a source of blessing! In every place, God’s blessings flowed for his life. More than just having the blessing of God, Joseph was the blessed of the Lord. Joseph was called to inherit the blessing that the Lord had spoken about his life, and no one was going to change this! As difficult as his life got, Joseph responded with blessing. As it says in Peter 3:9, “not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.”
Today we can experience God’s blessing despite the things around us. We must remember that the blessing always rests on the person, not the circumstances around us! In the midst of a crisis, storm, or difficult situation one can experience the superabundant blessing. Within us the Lord has placed the seed of blessing as it is declared in Isaiah 65:23, “They shall not labor in vain, Nor bring forth children for trouble; For they shall be the descendants of the blessed of the Lord, And their offspring with them.” We were called to live under the blessing of God. We were chosen by God to live not only a life, but a life in abundance! Amen.
Genesis 30:27 (NKJV) — 27 And Laban said to him, “Please stay, if I have found favor in your eyes, for I have learned by experience that the Lord has blessed me for your sake.”
2 Samuel 6:11 (NKJV) — 11 The ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite three months. And the Lord blessed Obed-Edom and all his household.
Psalm 128:4 (NKJV) — 4 Behold, thus shall the man be blessed Who fears the Lord.
Ephesians 1:3 (NKJV) — 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,
Psalm 72:17 (NKJV) — 17 His name shall endure forever; His name shall continue as long as the sun. And men shall be blessed in Him; All nations shall call Him blessed.
Psalm 115:15 (NKJV) — 15 May you be blessed by the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.
Psalm 37:22 (NKJV) — 22 For those blessed by Him shall inherit the earth, But those cursed by Him shall be cut off.
Isaiah 65:23 (NKJV) — 23 They shall not labor in vain, Nor bring forth children for trouble; For they shall be the descendants of the blessed of the Lord, And their offspring with them.
1 Peter 3:9 (NKJV) — 9 not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.
