Thoughts of Devotion:
There are people who are willing to risk their blessing for wanting to acquire more wealth. They have an eager and excessive desire to have more money, and more material things. But in the end they end up straying away from the Lord, and canceling the great blessings that He had for their lives. As it says in 1 Timothy 6:9, ” But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.” The ending is very sad for them, they end up with nothing, for wanting to have everything!
The love of money damages our spiritual life, it makes us greedy, nothing satisfies us, all we want is to have more! And until we reach it, we will not be happy. In 1 Timothy 6:6-8 it reminds us that, “Now godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.” You can have joy in this life, and also have the peace of God depending entirely on His blessings. Not seeking to bless ourselves, but to know that God will pour His blessings if we remain faithful to Him.
On this day do not let the love of things deprive us of the One who has the power to bless us beyond our wildest dreams. Instead of loving money, we must love God with all our heart! He is the one who never disappoints us or forsakes us in times of need. In Hebrews 13:5 it tells us, “Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” This morning we must thank God for His blessings, let us be content and satisfied with what God has given us!
Colossians 3:5 (NKJV) —5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
Joshua 7:21 (NKJV) — 21 When I saw among the spoils a beautiful Babylonian garment, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, I coveted them and took them. And there they are, hidden in the earth in the midst of my tent, with the silver under it.”
1 Timothy 6:9 (NKJV) — 9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.
Hebrews 13:5 (NKJV) — 5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”[
2 Timothy 4:10 (NKJV) — 10 for Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world, and has departed for Thessalonica—Crescens for Galatia, Titus for Dalmatia.
1 Timothy 6:6-8 (NKJV) — 6 Now godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.
