Thoughts Of Devotion:
In the history of Israel we can see how God takes them out of Egypt into the land of promise. A place where they were going to have many blessings, their lives would thrive to the point of having more than enough. The overflowing blessings would be evident in their lives! Deuteronomy 8:10 tells us, “When you have eaten and are full, then you shall bless the Lord your God for the good land which He has given you.” The future of Israel was a glorious future full of God’s provision.
But there was a danger, the danger of forgetting! God warns his people to not make the mistake of forgetting that it’s He who gives them the ability to acquire wealth. They could not be proud thinking that by their own strength they had gained what they had. Deuteronomy 8:14 says, “when your heart is lifted up, and you forget the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;” and verse 17 adds, “then you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.’”
May the Lord help us never to forget that He alone can give us the strength to acquire the blessings in our life. We cannot for a moment give ourself credit for our hard work. We must remain humble and grateful, knowing that if it had not been for the Lord, we would not have anything we have now! We would still be lost in a dark world without hope and peace. Only God could of deliver us of word of slavery to sin, to a land full of promise and blessing. To him be the glory and honor for all the great things He has done in our lives.
Deuteronomy 7:8 (NKJV) — 8 but because the Lord loves you, and because He would keep the oath which He swore to your fathers, the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
