Pray Before The Lord

Topic: Seeking The Face of The Lord To Pray For Favor

The inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, “Let us continue to go and pray before the Lord, And seek the Lord of hosts. I myself will go also.”

Zechariah 8:21 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

1 Peter 1-5

Bible Versions:

Zechariah 8:21 (NIV) — and the inhabitants of one city will go to another and say, ‘Let us go at once to entreat the Lord and seek the Lord Almighty. I myself am going.’

Zechariah 8:21 (NLT) — The people of one city will say to the people of another, ‘Come with us to Jerusalem to ask the Lord to bless us. Let’s worship the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. I’m determined to go.’

Zechariah 8:21 (MSG) —The leaders will confer with one another: ‘Shouldn’t we try to get in on this? Get in on God’s blessings? Pray to God-of-the-Angel-Armies? What’s keeping us? Let’s go!’

Devotional Thoughts:

Today the Lord gives us a personal invitation to seek His face. This morning, as well as in the days of Zechariah, God calls each of us by name to come and implore his favor. Its a beautiful image we read about! A massive crowd of people going to the temple in Jerusalem to seek the help of God. It reminds me of the portion in Isaiah 2:3 where it says, “And many people shall go and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob, and will teach us his ways and walk in his paths. “

I wonder, what they were looking to get from God? The Bible teaches us that they sought the face of God to implore his favor on their lives. There was in them a desire, love, and zeal to go to seek help and blessings from God. This feeling was so great that even they were moved to invite and convince others to seek God. What a precious move of His Spirit! Now this is revival, when you manage to see a big move within His people to seek God’s face.

What about us this morning? Do we have the same sense of seeking the face of God? I personally believe that today more than ever we must pray for the favor of God upon our lives. We need God to intervene in a real and genuine way within our situation. We are confronted daily with difficult situations that appear impossible to our natural eyes. Moments where only the favor of God change or improve things. His favor will be the only thing that manages to do what we can not. It is for this reason that we seek his face imploring his assistance, relief and protection. Let us seek God together today, and we will surely see His favor in the days ahead.

Topical References:

Jeremiah 26:19 (NKJV) — Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah ever put him to death? Did he not fear the Lord and seek the Lord ’s favor? And the Lord relented concerning the doom which He had pronounced against them. But we are doing great evil against ourselves.”

1 Samuel 13:12 (NKJV) — then I said, ‘The Philistines will now come down on me at Gilgal, and I have not made supplication to the Lord.’ Therefore I felt compelled, and offered a burnt offering.”

2 Kings 13:4 (NKJV) — So Jehoahaz pleaded with the Lord, and the Lord listened to him; for He saw the oppression of Israel, because the king of Syria oppressed them.

2 Chronicles 33:12 (NKJV) — Now when he was in affliction, he implored the Lord his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers,

Zechariah 7:2 (NKJV) — when the people sent Sherezer, with Regem-Melech and his men, to the house of God, to pray before the Lord,

  1. I thanks God for giving me another day. Also I just pray to God to give for time to pray and to feel him more

  2. We must go and seek God. We must go and look for him for he may put his favorer. We must desire to seek God and we must invite people to come with us.
