Face To Face

Topic: Seeking His Face Is Having A Friendship With God

So the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. And he would return to the camp, but his servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tabernacle.

Exodus 33:11 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

1 Thessalonians 1-5

Bible Versions:

Exodus 33:11 (NLT) — 11 Inside the Tent of Meeting, the Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. Afterward Moses would return to the camp, but the young man who assisted him, Joshua son of Nun, would remain behind in the Tent of Meeting.

Exodus 33:11 (NIV) — 11 The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young aide Joshua son of Nun did not leave the tent.

Exodus 33:11 (MSG) — 11 And God spoke with Moses face-to-face, as neighbors speak to one another. When he would return to the camp, his attendant, the young man Joshua, stayed—he didn’t leave the Tent.

Thoughts Of Devotion:

Spending time in intimacy with God is the highest and most sublime experience that one can have as a human being on earth. Just knowing that it is possible for one to have an intimate relationship and communion with Him alone blows my mind, it is extraordinary! In the Bible we see that Moses was one of the great servants of God who had this great privilege. Scripture teaches us that he had a unique intimacy with God, “And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face” (Deut. 34:10).

I wonder if Moses had this experience, can we have it also? Is there opportunity today that I can experience the same intimate relationship with God? I have concluded that it is possible, God in His Word shows us that he wants to be our best friend! Jesus himself expressed this truth to his disciples, “You are my friends, if you do whatsoever I command you” (John 15:14). Our relationship with God can become a real and intimate friendship. We may mature and grow daily in our search for God and experience His glorious presence with us.

Today we have the privilege to invest and further develop our relationship with God. How can we do this? The answer is very simple, it is very essential to spend more time alone with Him. God desires to have us alone with Him! We must begin today, a friendship strengthens and grows over time. But it starts with a decision and determination to do it! It’s when you say, I want a friendship with God more than anything in this world. Nothing is more important than my relationship with Him. That our goal in this world would be to be called friends of God, “and the scripture was fulfilled which says, Abraham believed God, and it was counted for righteousness: and he was called the friend of God “(James 2:23).

Foundational Scriptures:

Numbers 12:8 (NKJV) — 8 I speak with him face to face, Even plainly, and not in dark sayings;
And he sees the form of the Lord. Why then were you not afraid To speak against My servant Moses?”

Deuteronomy 34:10 (NKJV) — 10 But since then there has not arisen in Israel a prophet like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face,

Deuteronomy 5:4 (NKJV) — 4 The Lord talked with you face to face on the mountain from the midst of the fire.

John 15:14–15 (NKJV) — 14 You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. 15 No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.

James 2:23 (NKJV) — 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God.
