Devotional Thoughts:

As we read this portion of Scripture one has to ask, what abyss did the Psalmist find himself in? Under what circumstances was his life in? He mentions a deep abyss where he is in a state of despair and anguish. How difficult could the situation have been, just thinking about the word “abyss” makes us understand of an isolated, alone, dark, a place of extreme discomfort. This is where his life was, but we get to see that from this place of anguish the Psalmist cries out and lifts his voice to God!

In his desperation, and in the depths of his abyss, God heard him and promises us Psalm 22:24, “For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; Nor has He hidden His face from Him; But when He cried to Him, He heard.” Thank God that He hears us! He does not despises us, or take our cry lightly when we are in need. I wonder, have we ever felt as if we were in a similar situation? What do we do when we are in a deep abyss? Moments when we feel alone, with no one who really understands or hears us.

In these difficult times we must cry out to the Lord. In our anguish and stressed life, we have the privilege of prayer. There is a God who cares for our welfare, and is attentive to our prayer. Today we understand that our prayers are not in vain. Every word we direct to The Lord, He hears! As Psalm 5:2 tells us, “Give heed to the voice of my cry, My King and my God, For to You I will pray.” Remember that we have a large audience with the King, his courts are open for us and we have the privilege to petition God in His presence.
