Thoughts of Devotion:
The question for reflection this morning is, ‘Why is it that we do we do what we do? or what are the interior motives that cause us to do certain things in our Christian life? We must take time to answer these questions. It is important to recognize that the interior motives of the heart are more important than what you do for the Lord. God sees your heart, beyond the action! As good as they might seem. Even Colossians 3:23 tells us, “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.”
In everything we do, our motives must be pure and genuine before the Lord. Everything we do must as to the Lord, and no one else! Sometimes we make the mistake of doing things to be seen by others, or even worse to receive recognition and take the glory that only belongs to God. We must not forget that God does not share His glory with anyone, “For My own sake, for My own sake, I will do it; For how should My name be profaned? And I will not give My glory to another.” (Isaiah 48:11). The glory and honor of all of our accomplishments in this life only belong to Him.
We must remember that everything we manage to accomplish in this life for the Lord, may it be much or little, none of us will receive the glory, only God will be glorified! It is when we understand this, that we will be able to serve God with a clean and pure hear, without the wrong motives. Let’s remain faithful to Him, regardless of anything else, at the end of the day God is the center of everything and no one else deserves the glory! We can declare what Psalm 115:1 tells us, “Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, But to Your name give glory, Because of Your mercy, Because of Your truth.” Seek to live with this truth always, let us constantly examine our motives before the Lord, only then will we reach to please God and serve our neighbor with pure motives!
Colossians 3:17 (NKJV)— And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
I Peter 4:11 (NKJV)— If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Colossians 3:23 (NKJV)— And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men,
Psalms 115:1 (NKJV) — Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, But to Your name give glory, Because of Your mercy, Because of Your truth.
Isaiah 48:11 (NKJV)— For My own sake, for My own sake, I will do it; For how should My name be profaned? And I will not give My glory to another.
Isaiah 42:8 (NKJV)— I am the LORD, that is My name; And My glory I will not give to another, Nor My praise to carved ima
