Thoughts of Devotion:
Before Israel could experience victory, triumph and success in God, they had to return once more to God! Many had abandoned the ways of the Lord, their lives were surrounded by idols, and their hearts were heavy with so much that as a result they were separated from God. The Prophet Samuel had to exhort them by saying, “If you return to the Lord with all your hearts, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtoreths from among you, and prepare your hearts for the Lord, and serve Him only; and He will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines.” 1 Samuel 7: 3 (RVR60).
If today we want to really see God’s help, our “Ebe-Nezer” we must leave behind the things that are separating us from the Lord. Sometimes it will be necessary to destroy and tear down hindrances to in seeing God’s help. Those things in our hearts and in our lives, occupying prominence idols in our lives! This morning we have to make this final decision. In Joshua 24:15 says, “And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
God wants to help us, for Him there is nothing impossible! But it will be necessary to make changes, to position our lives to receive His help. When the enemy tries to put things in our way, distractions that separate us from God’s ways, we have to declare the words of Jesus, “Get behind Me, Satan For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.” (Luke 4: 8). Our help will not come from elsewhere, but only God! He will be the only one who can help us cope with the challenges that we face. For this reason there is only one worthy to serve wholeheartedly, only Jesus can be our help in times of need!
Joshua 24:14 (NKJV) ― 14 “Now therefore, fear the Lord, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord!
Isaiah 55:7 (NKJV) ― 7 Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the Lord, And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.
Deuteronomy 13:4 Version (NKJV) ― 4 You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice; you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him.
Luke 4:8 (NKJV) ― 8 And Jesus answered and said to him, “Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”
