Ecclesiastes 5:10 (NLT) — 10 Those who love money will never have enough. How meaningless to think that wealth brings true happiness!
Ecclesiastes 5:10 (MSG) — 10 The one who loves money is never satisfied with money, Nor the one who loves wealth with big profits. More smoke.
Ecclesiastes 5:10 (NIV) — 10 Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless.
Thoughts Of Devotion:
One of the desires that sometimes we can see dominate the lives of people is the desire for more money. Some people live their entire lives coveting and pledging every effort to obtain large sums of money. There whole goal in life becomes to acquire more gold and silver! It happens what Proverbs 27:20, ” Hell and Destruction are never full; So the eyes of man are never satisfied.” These people are literally in love with money. These people have to be reminded that the root of all evil is the love of money. From this love springs much evil!
Having this strong desire for money according to Scripture this morning is vanity of vanities. I wonder, why is it vanity? Because no matter how much you can win to try to be happy, the result is always the same: There will never be enough. Happiness will never come to our lives. No matter how much money we accumulate, this will never fill the void in our lives. Therefore one gets to see every day the many people in the artistic world, politics, movies, etc. that end up being unhappy and unsatisfied even having huge amounts of money. How sad this condition is!
What about us? Do we walk always wishing we had more money. It is possible this morning that we have to reflect and let the Holy Spirit work in our lives. That our desires would be aligned with the Word of God. It is possible to live a life where we are not overtaken by these strong desires to accumulate more money in our lives. Pray that the Lord will give us peace and contentment to live our lives wanting more from him.
Ecclesiastes 1:8 (NKJV) — 8 All things are full of labor; Man cannot express it. The eye is not satisfied with seeing, Nor the ear filled with hearing.
Ecclesiastes 2:10 (NKJV) — 10 Whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I did not withhold my heart from any pleasure, For my heart rejoiced in all my labor; And this was my reward from all my labor.
Matthew 6:19 (NKJV) — 19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;
Matthew 6:24 (NKJV)— 24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
