The Children Of Israel Ate Manna

Topic: His Provision In The Desert

And the children of Israel ate manna forty years, until they came to an inhabited land; they ate manna until they came to the border of the land of Canaan.

Exodus 16:35 (NKJV)

Daily Bible Reading Plan

Mark 3-4

Bible Versions:

Exodus 16:35 (NLT) — 35 So the people of Israel ate manna for forty years until they arrived at the land where they would settle. They ate manna until they came to the border of the land of Canaan.

Exodus 16:35 (MSG) – 35 The Israelites ate the manna for forty years until they arrived at the land where they would settle down. They ate manna until they reached the border into Canaan.

Devotional Thoughts:

God always takes care of his children; He always makes sure to provide for our needs. Even in the middle of the desert, He continues to be our provider! We see how the journey of the children of Israel to the promise land was never easy. They faced tests and challenges, but God never left them. Deuteronomy 8:3 tells us, “So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.”

There is nothing today that can compare to God’s provision. Let us have the assurance that there is no desert that can paralyze or suspend the miraculous work of God’s provision for our lives. His promise is, that he will feed and take care of us throughout our journey here on Earth. That’s how it was for the people of Israel, and that’s how it will be for us. As Nehemiah 9:21 declares, “Forty years You sustained them in the wilderness; They lacked nothing; Their clothes did not wear out And their feet did not swell.”

Today, we can’t lose our trust, if God demands that we depend on Him, we must simply do so! We can be certain that the manna from heaven has not ceased. While we are in this journey the Lord promises to provide for each one of us. Manah from heaven, God’s divine provision is secure if we depend and trust in the Lord. Psalm 78 declares to us, “Had rained down manna on them to eat, and given them of the bread of heaven. 25 Men ate angels’ food; He sent them food to the full.” (v. 24-25).  Let’s allow God to provide for us in the midst of our desert. We must only be faithful and obedient to Him, and we will surely be satisfied.

Foundational Scriptures:

Joshua 5:12 (NKJV) — 12 Then the manna ceased on the day after they had eaten the produce of the land; and the children of Israel no longer had manna, but they ate the food of the land of Canaan that year.

Deuteronomy 8:3 (NKJV)— 3 So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.

Nehemiah 9:21 (NKJV) —21 Forty years You sustained them in the wilderness; They lacked nothing; Their clothes did not wear out And their feet did not swell.

Nehemiah 9:20 (NKJV) —20 You also gave Your good Spirit to instruct them, and did not withhold Your manna from their mouth, and gave them water for their thirst.

Psalms 78:24–25 (NKJV) — 24 Had rained down manna on them to eat, and given them of the bread of heaven. 25 Men ate angels’ food; He sent them food to the full.
