Do Not Fear

Topic: Faith And Obedience Is Required To See God’s Provision

And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son. For thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth.’ ” So she went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and she and he and her household ate for many days.

Daily Reading Plan

Mark 1-2

Bible Versions:

1 Kings 17:13–15 (NET) — Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid. Go and do as you planned. But first make a small cake for me and bring it to me; then make something for yourself and your son. For this is what the Lord God of Israel says, ‘The jar of flour will not be empty and the jug of oil will not run out until the day the Lord makes it rain on the surface of the ground.’” She went and did as Elijah told her; there was always enough food for Elijah and for her and her family.

Devotional Thoughts:

This morning one might wonder, when will my provision come to my life? We see that our provision many times come when we need them most and least expect them. It’s those moments when you can get to the end of oneself. When we come to think that the situation will never change, and in us arises the thought to plan for the worst. We get desperate as we see that our condition is going from bad to worse. Moments where all hope begins to diminish and we give up and just accept what fate will bring!

This was the situation of the widow in this story. In 1 Kings 17:12 we are told that when Elijah the prophet came to the city of Sarepta she was making final preparations to die, “she said Lord thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal I have in the barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and am gathering two sticks, to go in and prepare for me and my son, that we may eat, and let us die.” What a desperate and sad situation! Just waiting for death. She was to the point of having no hope, only death.

It was in this condition that the Lord begins the miracle of Divine provision. The Lord had a plan of provision to meet the Prophet’s need for food, the widow and all her household. But, what did the widow have to do for this to come to pass? This miracle is summarized in two words, faith and obedience. The miracle did not happen by itself, it had to have an action on behalf of the widow. She had to respond to the words of the prophet to receive her miracle. Her obedience and faith were the two most important ingredients for the miracle will take place. My prayer today is that we reflect on this miraculous work of the Lord, and to have faith and obedience in our lives for the miracle to take place.

Escrituras Fundamentales Del Tema:

1 Kings 17:4 (NKJV) — And it will be that you shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.”

Exodus 14:21 (NKJV) — Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided.

Numbers 21:8–9 (NKJV) — Then the Lord said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live.” So Moses made a bronze serpent, and put it on a pole; and so it was, if a serpent had bitten anyone, when he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.

Hebrews 11:30 (NKJV) — By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they were encircled for seven days.

Matthew 9:6–7 (NKJV) — But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins” —then He said to the paralytic, “Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.” And he arose and departed to his house.

  1. Grateful for this morning’s word. Many times we feel at the end of our rope, we sink in fristration believing that our situation will not get better. This causes us to accept a state of mind of death. This morning we are reminded that the Lord’s hand is not limited by our present situation or limited resources! His hand is mighty to provide and deliver us!!

  2. I really can say that God has been faithful, my prayer is that i continued to be faithful to Him.
yes there is times when you cant find your way out but all we can do is praise Him for who He is and remind Him of His promises to us, we are His Children and He is The King of kings!

  3. I just thanks God for this word and also I pray to God to give me more strength to keeping serving him amen

  4. Don’t be afraid for God never gave us the emotions of fear. God never intended us to have fear. He made us with hope, faith, and courage. Fear is a weakness only God can help us overcome!

  5. When we have no hope for what will happen in the future and we are ready for the worst we must not fear God will make a miracle in are life’s. All we must do is obey what God has said. We must also have faith in him that he can take us out of any situation in are lives.

  6. When we abide to God, we recurve from God. I will continue to follow the lords voice, he will ALWAYS provide!!!
