So They All Ate And Were Filled

Topic: The Miracles Of God’s Provision

And they said to Him, “We have here only five loaves and two fish.” 18 He said, “Bring them here to Me.” 19 Then He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass. And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes. 20 So they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained.

Matthew 14:17–20 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

Matthew 24-25

Bible Versions:

Matthew 14:17–20 (NLT) —17 “But we have only five loaves of bread and two fish!” they answered.18 “Bring them here,” he said. 19 Then he told the people to sit down on the grass. Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, looked up toward heaven, and blessed them. Then, breaking the loaves into pieces, he gave the bread to the disciples, who distributed it to the people. 20 They all ate as much as they wanted, and afterward, the disciples picked up twelve baskets of leftovers.

Thoughts of Devotion:

One of the most important miracles of provision in the Bible is the great miracle of multiplication of the bread and the fish. It is the only miracle of Jesus that is registered in the four gospels. We are able to see not only a multitude that was hungry, but that they were also confronted with the impossibility to find the means to be able to obtain food enough to satisfy their need. Where would they obtain bread? This was the question the disciples of Jesus had for Jesus. Before their eyes they couldn’t see how the provision would come in the midst of such great need.

For the disciples of Jesus, seeing the difficulty and impossibility of the situation, they suggested to let the people go so that they would find their own food. But, this was not the plan of Jesus for the situation! What they were about to witness was a miracle of provision! Jesus had the plan for the day; his agenda was provision and multiplication. What seemed impossible for them was an opportunity for Jesus to demonstrate his miraculous power. We are able to see in the miracle of provision, thousands of people receive there provision, but above that there was more than enough. They were satisfied to the point of being filled, and even had twelve baskets of bread left over. Glory to God!

I ask myself, are we ready today to see a manifestation of miracles in our lives? Are we anticipating for Jesus to intervene in our impossibility this morning? Today is the day to believe God for his miraculous provision. God has given us a promise in Psalms 34:9-10” Let’s be ready to enter the territory of miracles! God is about to manifest his provision in the situation that we confront. However great the impossibility, there is nothing impossible for God. Let us only remain in his plan and direction for our life; soon we will see a miracle of provision!

Foundational Scriptures:

Exodus 17:6 (NKJV) — 6 Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

1 Kings 17:5–6 (NKJV)— 5 So he went and did according to the word of the Lord, for he went and stayed by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan. 6 The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook.

Proverbs 13:25 (NKJV) — 25 The righteous eats to the satisfying of his soul,
But the stomach of the wicked shall be in want.

Isaiah 33:16 (NKJV) —16 He will dwell on high; His place of defense will be the fortress of rocks; Bread will be given him, His water will be sure.

Psalms 34:9–10 (NKJV)— 9 Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints! There is no want to those who fear Him. 10 The young lions lack and suffer hunger; But those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.

  4. Only God can make so much out of so little. God can make the miracle of multiplying. He fed a huge crowd of millions with only a little bit of food.

  5. When we are in need God will provide. God makes the greatest miricles and he will always provide. Nothing is impossible for God and he will make sure we will always have as long as we are with God.
