The Generous Soul Will Be Made Rich

Topic: Sowing Generously

24 There is one who scatters, yet increases more; And there is one who withholds more than is right, But it leads to poverty.25 The generous soul will be made rich, and he who waters will also be watered himself.

 Bible Versions

Proverbs 11:24-25 (MSG) 24 The world of the generous gets larger and larger; the world of the stingy gets smaller and smaller. 25 The one who blesses others is abundantly blessed; those who help others are helped.

Proverbs 11:24-25 (NIV) 24 One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. 25 A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.

Proverbs 11:24-25  (NLT) Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything. 25 The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.

Thoughts of Devotion:

For he who desires to be free of greed, the solution is the continuous practice of generosity in our lives. Generosity has a promise from God, the same way greed has real consequences, He who gives with full hands, the Lord promises to give back more than what he gave. The reason one can come to experience this blessing is because God is debtor to no one. His provision and blessing is upon those who freely give, those who are not stingy with the Lord. Do we desire to see Gods generosity with us? The secret is to be generous with Him! Remember what his word says, “But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully”(2Corinthians 9:6).

There is no reason this morning why you should withhold more than what is right, always living life with a closed fist and with greed in our hearts. The Scriptures continuously warn against this lifestyle. It guarantees us poverty, complete loss, and a miserable end. Who desires to end that way? I believe no one. It is important not to withhold more that what is right. The Lord first asks us to be generous with Him, “Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the first fruits of all your increase;”(Proverbs 3:9).

We must practice this, but let us not forget that it must be with God first. Let us not fall into the mistake of being generous towards others, and not towards God. There are those who are liberal and splendid with others, but not with the Lord. It cannot be this way, remember that God promises that our storehouse will be full and abundant when we are generous with Him. God will always take care of those who are generous with Him. God will always provide for the generous!

This morning let us pray that we may practice generosity in our daily lives. Ask the Lord for a generous heart. Let us allow the Holy Spirit to form us and take us to another level in our lives. That all greed may be removed from our lives, and that we may experience Gods blessing and prosperity. That we may begin to be faithful in our tithes and offerings, if we are not doing so already. Let us not forget that he who withholds more than what is right gets led to poverty. Let us practice generosity so our money doesn’t end up in a bag with holes.
