Versions of the Bible:
Exodus 20:2 (NIV) – “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.”
Exodus 20:2 (MSG) – I am God, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of a life of slavery.”
Exodus 20:2 (NLT) – “I am the Lord your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of your slavery.”
The Word of the Lord gives us a great example of how God delivers His chosen people. When they were under the oppression and slavery of Pharaoh, His strong arm delivered them! Exodus 3:7 tells us, And the Lord said: “I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.” The Lord saw the anguish and pain they were in. They spent more than 400 years living in servitude and subjugation as slaves under the tyranny of Pharaoh.
Under this situation of severe bondage, the Israelites had already formed an enslaved and subjugated mentality. The only memories they knew were of living as slaves! In their daily lives, they had no hope of one day leaving and being free of this oppression. But thank God for his strong arm that released them from this situation. Exodus 13:3 tells us, “And Moses said to the people: ‘Remember this day in which you went out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the Lord brought you out of this place. No leavened bread shall be eaten.’”
What a great testimony this is for us today of the power of God to deliver. In the same way that Israel was liberated from the domination and oppression of Egypt, we have been delivered from the world and the domain of the enemy. We were enslaved by the devil with so many bonds and chains, but praise God for the day that Jesus set us free! This morning we must always remember that we are free by the power of Jesus. The chains that bound us earlier need not bind us today. Embrace the freedom we have in Jesus and do not for a moment allow those chains to bind us again! Walk every day in freedom!
Joshua 24:6 (NKJV) – “Then I brought your fathers out of Egypt, and you came to the sea; and the Egyptians pursued your fathers with chariots and horsemen to the Red Sea.”
2 Chronicles 7:22 (NKJV) – “Then they will answer, ‘Because they forsook the Lord God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and embraced other gods, and worshiped them and served them; therefore He has brought all this calamity on them.’”
Micah 6:4 (NKJV) – “For I brought you up from the land of Egypt, I redeemed you from the house of bondage; And I sent before you Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.”
Jude 5 (NKJV) – But I want to remind you, though you once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.
Exodus 13:3 (NKJV) – “And Moses said to the people: ‘Remember this day in which you went out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the Lord brought you out of this place. No leavened bread shall be eaten.’”
Deuteronomy 7:8 (NKJV) – “[B]ut because the Lord loves you, and because He would keep the oath which He swore to your fathers, the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.”
