John 8:34 (NIV) – Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.”

John 8:34 (NLT) – Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin.”
Slavery to sin is one of the saddest conditions humans can find themselves in. Many people today are subjected to strong spiritual chains without the power to free themselves from their chains. They end up being slaves to their own sins! In Romans 6:16, we are told this truth: “Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?” These bonds of sin sadly drive the person to obey their own lusts and desires with a very sad end.
The strength of sin when one lets it without restrictions is dangerous. It’s a future of suffering and regret! The end of those who are bound by it, is assured death. I wonder: what way out is there for those who are bound by it? Romans 6:23 gives us a word of warning, yet it is encouraging: “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The consequence of being enslaved to sin is serious, but there is a way out! Jesus has given us an open door to get out of the clutches of sin and experience true freedom in Him.
There is only one hope to get out of the bondage of sin: Jesus Christ! Only He has the power to break every yoke of the enemy and make us completely free in Him. Attaining freedom from all sin, whatever it is, is a unique experience! As believers today, we have no reason to live enslaved by any chain of the enemy. We have One who has promised us freedom from the rule of sin. Now we just have to cry out to Him and implore His power in order to maintain the victory in our lives. Remember that the slavery of sin only has a place in our past, because today we are free in Christ!
Romans 6:16 (NKJV) – Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?
2 Peter 2:19 (NKJV) – While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage.
Romans 6:17 (NKJV) – But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.
Romans 6:19 (NKJV) – I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness.
