Romans 6:12 (NIV-LA) – Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.
Romans 6:14 (NLT) – Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.
The warning from the Lord into our lives this morning is, do not let sin rule your life! It’s a very true reality that can exist in the lives of many believers. Although they are saved and the Lord delivered them from many chains, there are sins that if they’re not careful can completely dominate their lives. Sins that, if one continuously practices them, sooner or later they become a habit, and they become strong chains; and at the end of the day our spiritual life will be greatly affected. Our spiritual lives will collapse because of this!
This really is a word at the right time for all of us. If anything, the enemy wants to take us captive to sin once more. He knows that if we only open a small door and we are not careful, he can take the upper hand. Knowing this we must remember the Lord’s promise in Romans 6:14; we are told, “For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.” The word of the Lord encourages us, letting us know that sin has no reason to rule over us.
There is no reason for allowing sin to rule us today and enslave us once again to do evil. We are completely free in Christ! By His grace we are more than conquerors. Before, sin reigned in us, but now as Romans 5:21 tells us, His grace reigns in our lives: “So that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Never give up; the fight against the enemy and our flesh must be fought daily. Just remember that it is by His grace that we will be more than conquerors in Christ Jesus.
Psalm 19:13 (NKJV) – Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, and I shall be innocent of great transgression.
Psalms 119:133 (NKJV) – Direct my steps by Your word, and let no iniquity have dominion over me.
Micah 7:19 (NKJV) – He will again have compassion on us, and will subdue our iniquities. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.
Romans 5:21 (NKJV) – So that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 7:23 (NKJV) – But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
