Topic: Let Us Run The Race That God Has Set For Us
12 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.
Hebrews 12:1 (NKJV)
Daily Reading Plan
Hebrews 12:1 (NLT) — 12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.
Thoughts Of Devotion:
This morning it’s important to recognize that God has placed a race before each one of us. Never for a moment can we think that we are running in vain, or with a sense of uncertainty in the road waiting for us ahead. On the contrary, the God we serve is a sovereign God, and He has already designed the route and navigation of our race. It’s been with great detail that the Lord has prepared our way in the race. Proverbs 3: 5-6 promises us that He will sort out our paths, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”
Understand that none of the routes are the same, God shaped the way especially for each one of us. Psalm 32: 8 confirms this, ” I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.” Thank God that He always has control of the future of our Christian walk. We are under his care and we are the apple of his eye, He always has his eyes fixed on us! Therefore we need not fear nor doubt the days ahead. Everything is under the control of the One who can do everything, and knows every detail of our future.
All that remains is for us to run to the goal, we cannot take our eyes off the prize. When the road seems hard and difficult to bear, put all your trust in Him who already designed the way! Remember what Hebrews 12:2 tells us, “looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Our Lord Jesus Christ will always be our great example of how we can achieve the path traced by the Father. Let us pray that our eyes always remain on the Author of our faith, that together we may run without turning away from the race ahead.
Philippians 3:14 (NKJV) — 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
2 Timothy 4:7 (NKJV) — 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
Galatians 2:2 (NKJV) — 2 And I went up by revelation, and communicated to them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to those who were of reputation, lest by any means I might run, or had run, in vain.
1 Corinthians 9:24 (NKJV) — 24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.
Jeremiah 12:5 (NKJV) — 5 “If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, Then how can you contend with horses? And if in the land of peace, In which you trusted, they wearied you, Then how will you do in the floodplain of the Jordan?
