 Jude 1:20 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

Ezekiel 36-39

Bible Versions:

Jude 20 (NIV) — But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit,

Jude 20 (MSG) — But you, dear friends, carefully build yourselves up in this most holy faith by praying in the Holy Spirit,

Jude 20 (AMP) — But you, beloved, build yourselves up [founded] on your most holy faith [make progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher], praying in the Holy Spirit;

Devotional Thought:

The book of Jude encourages us to build our lives on our most holy faith. This is very important! Since at the time when Jude addressed these words to his listeners, there was a continuous assault on the genuine faith of the hearers. The believer had to aggressively embrace the faith which they had been taught from the beginning. we even read in verse 3 where he states, “I had to write and urge you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” They were exhorted to fight and strive to keep the faith pure and untainted by corruption .

I wonder, why is our faith called holy? We discover that our faith is holy because it comes from God. It was given by Him! And secondly, when we practice our faith daily, the results will be a life consecrated unto God. In reading the text, Judas also ensures us how we can live our holy faith. He gives priority to prayer! But not just prayer in general, but one that is carried out under the power and direction of the Holy Spirit.

Praying in the Spirit is what will help us live our holy faith in our walk with the Lord. Praying in the Holy Spirit gives us power, direction, and the ability of affirm ourselves in our faith. The book of Ephesians gives us the same feeling when he says, “praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints” (Ephesians 6:18). Glory To God that we have the Holy Spirit helping us in our prayer life! It is through prayer in the Holy Spirit that we will be built up in the faith that God has left us.

Topical References:

Acts 15:9 (NKJV) — and made no distinction between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

James 5:16 (NKJV) — Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

Colossians 2:7 (NKJV) — rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.

Ephesians 6:18 (NKJV) — praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.

  1. My prayer is that I may continue to practice that faith that God gives and continue to make it stronger!!! Without strong faith, how do we expect to be used by God!!!
