Topic: We Must Obey, Even When Things Don’t Make Sense
But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
1 Corinthians 2:14 (NKJV)
Daily Reading Plan
1 Corinthians 2:14 (NLT) 14 But people who aren’t spiritual[a] can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means.
1 Corinthians 2:14 (NIV) 14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.
Thoughts Of Devotion:
On this day is important that we walk as spiritual people. The Bible is very clear on the subject of walking in the Spirit. Spirituality is required to understand the plans of God, His will and destiny for our lives. If there is no spirituality, we will never be able to understand what God wants to do in our situation! It’s impossible to walk in obedience to the Lord, if we are not spiritual men and women. Men and women that practice prayer and fasting! Those that live there lives consecrated to God, and His purpose for them. For those that are not spiritual, that walk in the flesh, the demands of obedience that God makes sometimes don’t make sense.
For them it will happen what this morning text states, they “can’t understand and can’t accept these thoughts from God, which the Holy Spirit teaches us. They sound foolish to him” (LB). The Lord has given us His Holy Spirit to obey Him, even when others don’t understand our obedience to the Lord. , In John 14:17 ” the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” For the person who doesn’t have the Holy Spirit, these things make no spiritual sense!
It’s for this reason that our obedience doesn’t depend on the opinions of others, even though it may appear to be done in a caring way. People will sometimes not understand our commitment, our complete obedience to the Lord! Reminds me of the Apostle Peter when he tried to convince Jesus not to go to the Cross in Matthew 16:22, “then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!” We see Jesus’ response was very clear, “get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men”(v.23). Today God calls each one of us to obey, even when everything in our natural eyes seems illogical, but in the eyes of faith and obedience it’s exactly what we should do.
Proverbs 3:7-8 (NIV) 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. 8 This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.
John 14:17 (NKJV) 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
Romans 8:7 (NKJV) 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.
1 John 2:27 (NKJV) 27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will[a] abide in Him.
1 Corinthians 1:18 (NKJV) For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
