Daily Reading Plan
Hebrews 12:15 (MSG) — Make sure no one gets left out of God’s generosity. Keep a sharp eye out for weeds of bitter discontent. A thistle or two gone to seed can ruin a whole garden in no time.
Hebrews 12:15 (NLT) — Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.
When we choose to not forgive, we attract very large consequences to our lives. When we take a continuous position to not forgive those who have offended us, something terrible begins to happen in our hearts. The Bible teaches us that a root of bitterness begins to sprout in the depths of our being. Our heart starts to be affected and damaged by not forgiving! The warning is very clear, “be careful to not allow any root of bitterness sprout up.” It is not any root, but a poison one that begins to grow and damage the heart.
In a short time this root begins to affect the way we think, act, and develope in our walk with the Lord. Not for a single moment can we make the mistake of thinking that if we do not forgive, it will not affect our relationship with God and even with others! The truth is that if affects, and affects in a great way. It is for this reason that Ephesians 4:31 says, “Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.” We are the ones who are affected by not forgiving, no one is damaged more than oneself when we decided to let bitterness dominate our hearts.
It is for this reason that today we must make a firm decision to forgive immediately those who have offended us without exception. By not doing so, the damage will begin as a small root and in a short period of time it will greatly affect the state of our heart. Our spiritual life will be damaged and will run the risk of stopping our spiritual progress. All that for not forgiving! Something so simple, but for some very difficult. Pray that today we put aside pride, arrogance, and boasting. None of this will lead to good, in the end it will be spiritual death.
