Not By Might, Nor By Power, But By My Spirit

Topic: Strength Come Through The Holy Spirit

So he answered and said to me: “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the Lord of hosts. ‘Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain! And he shall bring forth the capstone With shouts of “Grace, grace to it!” ’ ”

Zechariah 4:6, 7 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

Proverbios 7-9

Bible Versions:

Zechariah 4:6–7 (MSG) — Then he said, “This is God’s Message to Zerubbabel: ‘You can’t force these things. They only come about through my Spirit,’ says God-of-the-Angel-Armies. ‘So, big mountain, who do you think you are? Next to Zerubbabel you’re nothing but a molehill. He’ll proceed to set the Cornerstone in place, accompanied by cheers: Yes! Yes! Do it!’”

Devotional Thoughts:

This morning’s Scripture gives us an example of how we have an inexhaustible power of the Holy Spirit available to us. His power is incomparable to any other power on earth. No army, no force can be compared to the immense power of the Spirit of God. No one can challenge his power! There is no mountain that can stop the work and will of the Holy Spirit. In Acts 1:8 we are promised, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

Zerubbabel had a great task in front of him. A challenge that seemed impossible in the natural. There was great opposition and the task was too large in natural eyes. The only way that the task would be carried out was by the power of God’s Spirit. The promise was, “not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts” (4:6). As large or impossible as it the task seemed to be, it was to be carried out, because it was the work of the Spirit of God. It was not the will of man, but of God. The temple would be built and no one would stop it. No mountain could get in His way!

Today, the Holy Spirit’s role is vitally important if we are to have the force and strength to do the will of God. Every great work that God assigns, requires a force greater than ours. It can never be achieved by human effort, only under the strength of the Holy Spirit. I wonder, how much do we need these supernatural forces? Luke tells us, “And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and his fame spread throughout all the region round about.” The same way, we need the power of Spirit to fulfill God’s mission to given us.

Topical References:

Judges 14:6 (NKJV) — And the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him, and he tore the lion apart as one would have torn apart a young goat, though he had nothing in his hand. But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done.

Luke 4:14 (NKJV) — Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out through all the surrounding region.

Ephesians 3:7 (NKJV) — of which I became a minister according to the gift of the grace of God given to me by the effective working of His power.

2 Chronicles 14:11 (NKJV) — And Asa cried out to the Lord his God, and said, “ Lord, it is nothing for You to help, whether with many or with those who have no power; help us, O Lord our God, for we rest on You, and in Your name we go against this multitude. O Lord, You are our God; do not let man prevail against You!”

Hosea 1:7 (NKJV) — Yet I will have mercy on the house of Judah, Will save them by the Lord their God, And will not save them by bow, Nor by sword or battle, By horses or horsemen.”

Micah 3:8 (NKJV) — But truly I am full of power by the Spirit of the Lord, And of justice and might, To declare to Jacob his transgression And to Israel his sin.

  1. How important it is to ask for the holy spirit. It is the only thing that will make the a true different in any occasion. Blessed!

  2. God has power above all. Nothing is impossible in him we must believe the unbelievable because he can do all. If you can’t see something in the natural do not fear God work in the supernatural. We must have faith in him because he can do all.
