In My Heart Like A Burning Fire

Topic: The Importance Of Not Losing Our Passion

Then I said, “I will not make mention of Him, Nor speak anymore in His name.” But His word was in my heart like a burning fire Shut up in my bones; I was weary of holding it back, And I could not.

Jeremiah 20:9 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

Psalms 81-86

Bible Versions:

Jeremiah 20:9 (NLT) — 9 But if I say I’ll never mention the lord or speak in his name, his word burns in my heart like a fire. It’s like a fire in my bones! I am worn out trying to hold it in! I can’t do it!

Thoughts Of Devotion:

This is one of the strongest expressions in scripture, “I will not make mention of Him, Nor speak anymore in His name.”(v.9) We are able to see a prophets soul debating between what decision to make. On one hand, the desire to leave and abandon everything, and on the other the impossibility of resisting the compulsion inside that was a lot stronger than him. This verse is one of the most interesting in all prophecy, it demonstrates a revelation of the intimate feeling of a true prophet. Jeremiah decides to forget his commission and stop pronouncing the word of The Lord.

Jeremiah was going through a difficult period in his life. Persecution, beating and humiliation came to his life. And the most tremendous thing about all this, it wasn’t because of his disobedience, on the contrary it was for obeying Gods call completely. Because of this, discouragement came to his life! The prophet got to the point of wanting to suspend his prophetic ministry. Have you ever been through similar situations? Where the passion that you had for the things of God has diminished and you no longer posses the fire and zeal to serve The Lord in the same way as the beginning.

Ask yourself, have you become discouraged? Have you felt like giving up? Renouncing your calling? Your mission in life? The prophet Jeremiah had to deal with this in his life. It wasn’t easy, he got to the moment of wanting to faint and leave his divine calling! At the end of the day Jeremiah had a fire in his bones, the passion to go forward regardless of the circumstances that we’re coming to his life. Today you and I can’t retreat, we can’t abandon Gods call in our lives. No matter how difficult it is, God desires to inflame his passion in our hearts. There is so much more to do for God, but a fresh passion will be required!

Foundational Scriptures:

Psalms 39:3 (NKJV) — 3 The more I thought about it, the hotter I got, igniting a fire of words:

Luke 9:62 (NKJV) — 62 But Jesus told him, “Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God.” (Luke 9:62 NLT)

Jeremiah 5:14 (NKJV) — 14 Therefore, this is what the lord God of Heaven’s Armies says: “Because the people are talking like this, my messages will flame out of your mouth and burn the people like kindling wood.

Acts 4:20 (NKJV) — 20 We cannot stop telling about everything we have seen and heard.”

  1. This is a bless for my life and we should pray to God to give us strength because to not give up on the calling that God has for us . Also we should have passion when we are doing the word of God amen

  2. Amen, I what to thank the lord for letting me praise him. I think just like we praise him we must tell other people for they can praise him to. We can’t not talk about his word it will burn in our hearts. God has made are calling clear and you can’t avode it because it will burn in your heart.
