Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Consider your ways! Go up to the mountains and bring wood and build the temple, that I may take pleasure in it and be glorified,” says the Lord.

Haggai 1:7–8 (MSG) — That’s why God -of-the-Angel-Armies said: “Take a good, hard look at your life. Think it over.” Then God said: “Here’s what I want you to do: Climb into the hills and cut some timber. Bring it down and rebuild the Temple. Do it just for me. Honor me.
Haggai 1:7–8 (NIV) — This is what the Lord Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways. Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build my house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored,” says the Lord.
The Lord in this portion of Scripture encouraged His people to meditate and reflect on their ways. Something was very wrong in the eyes of the Lord, and it was necessary that it be corrected. The problem was that the people had left the care of the Lord’s house, while their houses were well attended. The Lord had to ask the question “Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, and this temple to lie in ruins?” (Haggai 1:4). We see that they were unconcerned about the sad condition of the sanctuary, while they only thought of themselves.
It is a very sad spiritual condition, when a believer comes to lose the zeal and passion for the Lord’s house. When we forget the great need in the house of the Lord, and we only meet our own needs. We must realize that genuine revival is always marked by a zeal and interest in the Lord’s house. This is not only a responsibility, but to support and provide for the improvement of the sanctuary becomes a privilege and delight. That is why today we need a revival in our midst!
The consequences when one is not interested in the welfare of the Lord’s church is that we never get to see the prosperity of the Lord in our lives, throwing everything into bags with holes! The prophet Haggai claimed saying, “You have sown much, and bring in little; You eat, but do not have enough; You drink, but you are not filled with drink; You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; And he who earns wages, Earns wages to put into a bag with holes” (Haggai 1:6). Pray that the Lord today light a passion for his work as never before. That He may revive our hearts, to dedicate ourselves to build the house of the Lord with our talents, skills, and resources.

1 Kings 8:29 (NKJV) — that Your eyes may be open toward this temple night and day, toward the place of which You said, ‘My name shall be there,’ that You may hear the prayer which Your servant makes toward this place.
2 Chronicles 7:16 (NKJV) — For now I have chosen and sanctified this house, that My name may be there forever; and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually.
