In Understanding Be Mature
Topic: We Must Grow In Our Way Of Thinking
Brethren, do not be children in understanding; however, in malice be babes, but in understanding be mature.
1 Corinthians 14:20 (NKJV)
Daily Reading Plan
1 Corinthians 14:20 (NLT) — 20 Dear brothers and sisters, don’t be childish in your understanding of these things. Be innocent as babies when it comes to evil, but be mature in understanding matters of this kind.
1 Corinthians 14:20 (NIV) — 20 Brothers and sisters, stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants, but in your thinking be adults.
Thoughts Of Devotion:
Our spiritual growth should reflect in all aspects of our walk with God. Our spiritual maturity should also be demonstrated in our way of thinking. This was the Apostle Paul’s exhortation to the church of Corinth, a congregation full of spiritual gifts and manifestations, but yet had still not matured in their way of thinking! The Apostle Paul referred to them as spiritual children. Their understanding had not been renewed, as Romans 12:2 declares, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
I ask myself how many times we have made the mistake of making wrong choices, or even take the wrong steps because of the lack of a renewed and matured mind in the Lord? Our mind should continually be filled of the Word of God. It’s his Word that daily renews our way of thinking! It’s when we meditate in it that we will be wise in order to think correctly. As Psalms 119 teaches us, “Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day. You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies; For they are ever with me.” (v.97-98).
We can’t be molded to the world’s thinking, those that are in darkness, and without spiritual illumination. The book of Romans exhorts us saying, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (v.2). Now is the time to experience the renewal of our mind, to be able to think maturely. We can not remain as spiritual children! God desires for us to grow spiritually and go to another level. It just requires a decision today of no longer being as a child, but mature in comprehension and understanding.
Psalms 119:97–98 (NKJV) — 97 Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day. You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies; For they are ever with me.
Romans 12:2 (NKJV) — 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
1 Corinthians 13:11 (NKJV) — 11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
Ephesians 1:17–18 (NKJV) — 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding[a] being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,
Colossians 1:9 (NKJV) — 9 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
