Me And My House, We Will Serve The Lord

Topic: Salvation Of The Family

15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Joshua 24:15 (NKJV)

31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

Acts 16:31 (NKJV)

Bible In A Year Reading Plan

Genesis 49:1–50:26, Hebrews 12:1–13:25, Ecclesiastes 12:9–14

(Observation: The Bible In A Year Reading Plan is not in chronological order. Each day contains a portion from the Old Testament, New Testament, and Poetic Books.)

Bible Versions:

Joshua 24:15 (MSG) — 15 “If you decide that it’s a bad thing to worship God, then choose a god you’d rather serve—and do it today. Choose one of the gods your ancestors worshiped from the country beyond The River, or one of the gods of the Amorites, on whose land you’re now living. As for me and my family, we’ll worship God.”

Joshua 24:15 (NLT) — 15 But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”

Acts 16:31 (NLT) — 31 They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, along with everyone in your household.”

Devotional Thoughts:

The Lord desires to see that we as a family serve Him together. The call to salvation has a promise not only for us, but for our whole family.  He promises, and His promises do not fail. We only have to trust and believe that this promise is for us personally. Just as Joshua declared it, “As for me, my family and I will serve The Lord”. This morning we must declare the same thing. It is possible to see this promise become a reality today. Now is the timing of God to see the salvation of our household! That together as a family we may establish ourselves in the ways of the Lord and that we may serve Him with our whole heart.

What Did This Declaration Mean To Joshua?

  1. Firstly, he made a personal decision: Joshua made a decision. He is leaving a heritage, a legacy to his children, his descendants would be affected by this decision.

  2. Secondly, he took complete responsibility: Joshua took responsibility for his family. We must take responsibility to pray for all our family daily. It has been said that prayer is to the family what a roof is to a house, it protects those who are inside from the enemy and life’s adversities.

  3. Thirdly, it’s seeing unity in the family: Joshua united his family. Where there is unity, God sends blessings. Unity within a family revolves around all the members sharing and respecting the same values.

  4. Fourthly, it’s to have a firm determination: Without considering the rest, Joshua determined himself. Today we must be parents determined to fill our roll and have families determined to make a difference.

Let us pray this morning that together we may see these qualities in our lives. A strong family makes a strong church! God desires to save and restore our family. This is the year to believe God for His promise to become a reality for us.

Foundational Scriptures:

1 Kings 18:21 (NKJV) — 21 And there I have made a place for the ark, in which is the covenant of the Lord which He made with our fathers, when He brought them out of the land of Egypt.”

Deuteronomy 30:19 (NKJV) — 19 I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;

Matthew 6:24 (NKJV) — 24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

Acts 11:23 (NKJV) — 23 When he came and had seen the grace of God, he was glad, and encouraged them all that with purpose of heart they should continue with the Lord.

1 Samuel 7:3 (NKJV) — 3 Then Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, “If you return to the Lord with all your hearts, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtoreths from among you, and prepare your hearts for the Lord, and serve Him only; and He will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines.”

  1. Thank God for His promises that never fail. If He promised, He will do it. “Gods word doesnt come back void, but it fulfills ALL which He sent it forth to do.” isaiah55:11 This year I am determined like Joshua to declare & stand in Gods promises for my personal life, family, ministry and my Church. Gods promises are an anchor to our soul, they allow us to move forward trusting and believing God that we will see them come to pass. All it takes is FAITH and TRUST in the most High. God Bless

  2. Praise God for he is faithful with his promises, which we must believe and put into action, I believe by faith anything is possible and i will continue to pray for my family as they pray for me for restoration and salvacion this is my prayer for my family. stay blessed!!
