The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverse mouth I hate.

Devotional Thoughts:

The scripture brings to light several things that the Lord hates. One of them clearly is pride and arrogance. Let’s think for a moment, what does it mean when in the Bible it says the Lord hates something? What this means is that the Lord firmly opposes it. To hate is not only something that the Lord dislikes, but he rejects it and doesn’t have anything to do with it. This is what the Lord feels towards a prideful and arrogant person.  He cannot abide and coexist were pride and arrogance dwell.

Psalms 138:6 reads, “Though the Lord is on high, yet He regards the lowly, but the proud He knows from afar.” (NKJV) The Lord tells us that when there’s pride and arrogance there is no communion with Him. The saddest thing about this is that when we walk in pride our daily communion with God is broken. His presence isn’t so real and tangible in our lives. The Lord seems to be far away from us!

Begin this day by examining your daily walk and see if there could be areas where pride dwells. Pride often comes disguised in many ways and forms. Even the scripture here mentions two words used by the author: “pride and arrogance.” The author emphasizes these two words to describe the fullness of pride and the different forms it can exist in our lives.

What is the solution for pride in our lives? We must understand, that even though the Lord hates the arrogance within us, he loves us and accepts us once again.  The only condition is that we repent and confess our pride to him. Give your life a new beginning and decide to keep yourself from pride. It’s possible to embrace the fear of God, and hate pride just like God hates it!
